His first book, The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere, was a focused discussion on the public sphere and the effects of capitalism on our society. The public sphere is a social medium that is influenced by forces such as political, economic, religious, or other powerful social factors. When there are formed ideas and reactions that are shared, this creates the public opinion. No one owns this opinion, and it creates a surface for other media to grow on top of.
