Walter Benjamin was a media critic that differentiated between media and art. He was famous for stating “that which withers in the age of mechanical reproduction is the aura of the work of art.” Benjamin thought that when things are mass produced it loses its “aura.” Its aura being the genuine meaning or story of the piece that is trying to be relayed by the artist. When media is mass produced it loses its uniqueness and its meaning gets lost in the mix of capitalism.
