Jurgen Habermas
The Public Sphere is an area where people (private interests) can come together to debate and discuss the pressing issues of their society (public interests). It is a public opinion forum that is the site for production and circulation of discourses that can be critical of the state. This circulation of ideas is essential to participatory democracy.
