Mass media traditionally has been defined as the media that is used for communicating to the mass of any information they are to get through. Some mass media are television and radio, obviously. Another idea in "Media in Everyday Life" describes and defines some relation to mass media. The "Public Sphere" is basically a space, any space, that gathers the public people together to debate and discuss issues of their society. Thus, this sphere is a form of public opinion where the focus is on the public and middle class rather than for the high status with power.
Mass media traditionally has more distinction in the different sectors and channels for communication. There was the television and radio. I am not arguing that there are mo distinction between media channels now. What I am saying is that mass media never operates alone and apart from other media forms. This bundling and blurriness in distinction is a convergence of the media.
Critique is a form of analysis based on separation of subjects, making decisions, and judging the information you have been given. It is important to know that critique is not a reaction to some given information, but reasons to backup why you reacted a certain way, which leads to analysis.
The Mass Media definition has been losing much of its meaning in how the author in "Media in Everyday Life" described it in the "old days" before the internet was available to the public. This trend towards webcast opened a new wave of channels for communications of the public. Mass media is leaning towards the idea of the mass not only exposed to the media through television and radio, but exposure through the web and specifically, the change in ownership of the media. The change in ownership in web media is what really defines a change and questions to continue defining mass media as a mean to communicate to the masses that lacks diversity in ownership (corporate- owned). Therefore, this new form of media open doors for the middle class as an individual to make decisions for themselves. So what is mass media today? In terms of what the authors of the articles argue, it more about the mass, the middle class, that not only are exposed to the media, but they control it in terms of ownership. Thus, this is how the paradigm of "Mass Media" has essentially shifted because technology has also changed.
