Blog 1: Media in Everyday Life

Mass media is a tube of information that can be wideband broadcasted to a large audience of people. These people, although not aware of it, have similar viewing styles and receive the information similarly and in return come to the same conclusion on the message passed.

Public Sphere is a forum in which people can discuss and share their views regarding ideas and information that they have. The idea that anyone can have an opinion of their own comes into play here as everyone does. Regardless of political affiliation, intelligence, or financial status does everyone’s say matter here.

Convergence is the process by which different media that are originally separate integrate into one.

Critique is a response to the workings of a work, piece or evidence of creation that is targeted at the creator of said piece.

I feel that the media really throws out real news for items of social importance for ratings. When I watch the new, I feel there are a few segments of necessary news such as weather and sports. However, more than half of the news is infotainment. The prominence of hooking news and flashy captions to capture audiences is alarming. The instinct to seek thrilling news has desensitized the public’s ability to understand true events and think on their impact. The internet only complicates this more so by showing top searches, essentially conforming what an individual surfs into that of what the masses have already seen.
