Blog #5
The snippets of the Communist Manifesto presented seem to allude to the idea that the bourgeoisie can be viewed as the controllers of the entertainment media and the proletariat are the consumers who contribute to the economy and perpetuate this system. This conforms to Chomsky's model as the system that is in place is directing and deciding what the proletariat are allowed to believe. Chomsky also suggested alternative media as a means for the masses, or the proletariat, to break out from the system, which is was Marx suggests when he encourages “enforced destruction of a mass of productive forces...and...more thorough exploitation of old ones.” I feel like this is being done, through the channels of media available to us, even if there are limited in their audience, people are manipulating and utilizing the internet, television, music, as a means to express their own individual ideas rather than something mass media is trying to impose on the masses.
