Blog 2: Manufacturing Consent

Many visual techniques were used in the film Manufacturing Content, one of which was the cinematography and syncing of audio and video. It was amazing how Noam’s story fell into place, the use of the images really put together the story nicely. Different interviews and television footage were combined to create a new experience for me.

This tied in with Chomskys, Propaganda model, as he brought in different evidence and linked it to one common goal. Some speeches were cut and modified point, with no regard for the initial meanings of the speeches. It was easy for me to fall into the producers trap as I began to catch myself falling into an endless spiral of short-term memory facts. Linked together like musical notes, the footage of Noam Chomsky was presented in a skewed, cut, incomplete, and one-sided way.

There was also an overuse of stats without enough credibility or explanation behind the stats. The stats were placed in obstructive places and left me unable to focus on the task at hand, and drew me in. Some stats were placed around supporting images which further emphasized their argument.
